Professor Director, Emergency Nurse Practitioner Specialty
For over two decades, Dr. Wilbeck's efforts have promoted the Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENP) role nationally and internationally for delivery of high-quality emergency care through education, service, practice and advocacy. Her leadership of the nation's first dual NP academic program for ENP preparation still serves as a model for ENP educational programs. She championed the development of national ENP practice standards and the creation of a national ENP specialty certification board examination. She also served as the Founding Board Chair for the first national ENP specialty professional organization, the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners, where she now serves as the Executive Director. As a recognized ENP curricular design expert, she is currently leading national initiatives to standardize ENP education.
In addition to her academic leadership role, she currently serves as the Project Director for a national education grant preparing nurse practitioners to provide sexual assault care within rural and underserved settings (learn about the SANE program). Dr. Wilbeck serves on the Editorial Board for the Advanced Emergency Nursing Journal. Her scholarly interests include the role of simulation in nurse practitioner education, ENP practice issues and competency assessment.
