Dr. Smith is an Instructor of Nursing in the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Program. Dr. Smith sees general cardiology and heart failure patients twice a week at The Heart Center at Meharry which provides comprehensive cardiac care to the underserved urban community in Nashville, TN. She started teaching on an as needed basis for the school of nursing in 2000 and became full time faculty in 2008. Dr. Smith has taught in the pre-specialty program as well as the acute care program. Her interests include transitioning heart failure patients from the hospital to home, as well as literacy appropriate heart failure education tools. Chronic disease management of the heart failure patient as well as heart failure education is Dr. Smith's area of expertise.
